Who Are We?

The Men of Emmaus a.k.a. The Church Guys are a group of men at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Derwood, MD.  We meet on Saturdays at 7:30 A.M. in the youth room (although we are not so youthful as we used to be).   We come for many reasons — fellowship, discussion, donuts, but the most important is that we want to be better husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, and friends by conforming ourselves ever more closely to Christ. This blog records our goings-on, random thoughts, and anything else.

Our History And Future

We got started about a year ago. After receiving inquiries from a number of guys at St. Francis, Fr. Lee decided that it was time to give this a try. In the beginning, we worked through Generating Traces in the History of the World by Msgr. Luigi Guissani. We then veered to Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. By then, Fr. David became our Pastor and kept us under his wing as we began working through the Gospel according to St. John. We will be finishing the gospel by the end of August and, for the next couple of Saturdays, working through short, ad hoc readings. After the St. Francis Men’s Retreat, we will be studying the Beatitudes until Advent.

Thanks for stopping by! Come again soon.
